Abstract

Waste generation is one of the biggest environmental problems that has increased in recent years, even reaching a disproportionate level. Facing this scenario, federal and local governments have taken actions to mitigate this issue by opting for the transition from a linear or extractive economy to a circular economy, which is a sustainable possibility. In this regard, this study aimed to analyze the integrated municipal solid waste management concerning the circular economy in the Peruvian
context, through a documentary review. Results suggest that the production of solid waste has increased significantly in recent years as well as the expenditure allocated for its management. In addition, multiple agreements that seek to improve policies and schemes that guide the actions of social institutions to achieve a dignified life for citizens through inclusive and sustainable
development. In conclusion, it is important to strengthen the municipal policy and unite strategies that strengthen the environmental culture of citizens and community participation.
